"Travel is at its most rewarding
when it ceases to be about your reaching a destination
and becomes indistinguishable from living your life."
Ghost Train to the Eastern Star
Paul Theroux
Like many of my generation, I've spent much of my free time travelling,
attracted to the experiences of life on the road. Yes, I do love travelling.
I belong to that tribe of global nomads who can only survive in a state of constant motion.
When I was younger, ahem, young, I used to stay at youth hostels, the sort of place you might
choose for yourself. These days, I must confess, I feel more inclined to head for more refined
accomodation. Ain't I entitled to it after months of gruelling work with my teen students?
What is the most interesting place in the world?
Well, that certainly depends on you, but I have my answer to that question.
